James Moreno Open Meet in Southampton - Results 5th October 2014

Seventeen West Wight swimmers competed in the annual Southampton open meet which saw nearly 30 teams from the South of England racing at a very high standard.

While there were many superb swims and person best times, medals were harder to achieve and so twelve year old Annabel Fletcher was over the moon winning Silver in the 50m fly in a PB time of 34.84. The other medal was a bronze medal won by Sam Tinson-Wood in the 100m free in 54.21. Sam was very close to medal contention in 50m free with 4th. Senior swimmers Matt Barber and Rhys Hunt also were very close to medal contention placing respectively 4th and 5th in the 50m Breaststroke and 50m fly. Also in the open age group, Annalise and Bethany Jerram were back in competition and had very good swims. Again in a very competitive open age group Annalise managed 5th in 100m fly and 6th in 50m fly. Bethany was seventh in 100m breaststroke.

Fifteen year olds Luke Herbert, Jake Williams and Charlie all competed in the 15 + open age group which was very competitive. Luke was also close to a medal placing 4th in 100m back and had a 3 seconds PB in the 200 IM. Jake smashed his PB time in the 200 IM by 7 seconds and produced another big PB in 50m fly in 29.43. Charlie was very close to a PB in the 50m back.

The PB King for the day was 13 year old Louis Herbert who achieved personal best times in all five events he swum, taking 5 seconds off his best on 200 IM in 2.40.00. In the same age group Joseph Frank had a sensational best time in 50m back in 32.66 and placed 6th in an age group including 14 year old boys.

Lucy Miller, Molly Fennimore and Megan Rice competed in the girls 13/14 year age group and Lucy managed a 3 seconds Pb on 200 IM in 2.49.64.
Evelyn Fletcher, the youngest competitor from West Wight, celebrated her 11th birthday on the day of competition and just entered one event in the morning session and achieved a PB time in 50m breaststroke. Lottie James who now trains and races for the Bournemouth Collegiate Swimming Academy competed with her new team and mingled with West Wight swimmers.
